The Portuguese architects Márcia Nascimento (b. 1982) and Nuno Costa (b. 1984) are developing an artistic project around the planned but unbuilt Land Art Memorial to Urho Kekkonen, designed in 1978 by Tapio Wirkkala for the Saivaara fell in Finnish Lapland.
From the study of its remaining material and the experience of the site, the aim of this project is to recover and develop the Memorial Saivaara through the production of unprecedented documentation, based on drawings and models that will show what Wirkkala truly wanted with this little known but very significant work.
The material produced in this project is intended to be shown at the events planned by the Tapio Wirkkala Rut Bryk Foundation to commemorate the centenary year of the artist couple (2015–16).
